About us

We know you have a story to tell

The Benchmarking Project is a collaborator, a facilitator, a storyteller, a visionary, a partner in fundraising. Our aim is to share the wisdom of our community to provide best practice fundraising to the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand charity fundraising sector.

Fi McPhee, Peter Coleman, Paul Tavatgis and Adam Watson have teamed up to bring charities, agencies and peak bodies the data and insights they need to make the best possible fundraising decisions.

Meet the directors

Fi McPhee FFIA, FFINZ

Insights Director

Culture, strategy, fundraising, data and communicating are what Fi is obsessed with.

She is a consultant, advisor, strategist, trainer and speaker who is best known for being the face, brain and mouthpiece for fundraising benchmarking for the past 20 years.

“I love data, words and people and working with each other creatively to identify and solve problems.”

A hugely respected member of the fundraising community, Fi is the first person to hold Fellowships with both the FIA and FINZ.

Outside of fundraising, she can be found doing pilates, outdoors camping and exploring the natural beauty of her hometown, Wanaka, or in a field raving to EDM (electronic dance music, not direct mail).

Paul Tavatgis FFIA

Managing Director

In 1996, Paul could be found inside a giant candle suit representing Amnesty International on stage in front of 800 high school students, however, he is probably best known as being instrumental in the establishment and first CEO of the PFRA.

With nearly 30 years’ experience in the NFP and fundraising sector, Paul is a well-respected leader and organiser who works with a single goal – to make fundraising as effective and responsible as possible

Dr Peter Coleman

Memberships Director

Starting out as a face-to-face fundraiser, and with a love of building relationships, Peter takes pride in creating open and fruitful communications.

Away from fundraising, Peter continues relationship building as a marriage celebrant. He is a published author and has a Ph.D. in cultural studies. His primary reason for getting a Ph.D. was to call himself ‘Dr’ on flights and get upgraded to Business class. To date, no upgrade has been forthcoming.

Adam G. Watson

Sales & Marketing Director

Passionate about the NFP sector, Adam has led award-winning campaigns and represented dozens of fantastic causes throughout Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the UK. He is known as a respected speaker, facilitator and commentator in the fundraising community.

When not fundraising, he enjoys being a dad to two young boys, expanding his book collection, and cheering on his football team.
