We know you have a story to tell
Welcome to The Benchmarking Project. Like you, we are a collaborator, a facilitator, a storyteller, and big part of fundraising.
Our aim is to share the wisdom of our community to provide best practice fundraising to the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand charity fundraising sector.
Fi McPhee, Peter Coleman, Paul Tavatgis and Adam Watson have teamed up to bring charities, agencies and peak bodies the data and insights they need to make the best possible data-driven fundraising decisions.
Who we are
Fi McPhee
MAICD, FFIA, FFINZ
Insights Director
Culture, strategy, fundraising, data and communicating are what Fi is obsessed with.
She is a consultant, advisor, strategist, trainer and speaker who is best known for being the face, brain and mouthpiece for fundraising benchmarking for the past 20 years.
A hugely respected member of the fundraising community, Fi is the first person to hold Fellowships with both the FIA and FINZ.
Paul Tavatgis
FFIA
Managing Director
In 1996, Paul could be found inside a giant candle suit representing Amnesty International on stage in front of 800 high school students, however, he is probably best known as being instrumental in the establishment and first CEO of the PFRA.
With nearly 30 years’ experience in the NFP and fundraising sector, Paul is a well-respected leader and organiser who works with a single goal – to make fundraising as effective and responsible as possible.
Dr Peter Coleman
MFIA
Memberships Director
Starting out as a face-to-face fundraiser, and with a love of building relationships, Peter takes pride in creating open and fruitful communications.
Away from fundraising, Peter continues relationship building as a marriage celebrant. He is a published author and has a Ph.D. in cultural studies. His primary reason for getting a Ph.D. was to call himself ‘Dr’ on flights and get upgraded to Business class. To date, no upgrade has been forthcoming.
Adam G. Watson
MFIA
Sales & Marketing Director
Passionate about the NFP sector, Adam has led award-winning campaigns and represented dozens of fantastic causes throughout Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the UK. He is known as a respected speaker, facilitator and commentator in the fundraising community.
When not fundraising, he enjoys being a dad to two young boys, expanding his book collection, and cheering on his football team.
Here’s why Greg Millar and IHC Group are renewing their membership
“We are continuing our membership with The Benchmarking Project in 2025 because it is such an important tool in IHC Group’s ongoing fundraising strategy implementation and measurement and provides us with key milestones to check our progress.
IHC has been using Benchmarking to seriously drive Regular Giving growth, which will continue.
We are now looking to quantify in a similar way our strategic intent and growth in Leadership, Middle Donor and Legacy fundraising. We can see how The Benchmarking Project can provide us with the same valuable tools in an area of fundraising that is often difficult to quantify and measure accurately.
Thank you and well done to The Benchmarking Project team. You have done great work, provided excellent tools and insights. Every year I see important and exciting improvements and ways of seeing data and analysis that guide good management decisions. It’s also incredibly helpful in investment pitches we make and subsequent regular reporting to IHC Group’s Chief Executive and Board.”
Congratulations to Greg and IHC for their continued growth, and thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey.
